Legal
Terms of use
How our work may be used, how to cite it, how corrections are handled, and how our independence is recorded.
Scope
These terms govern your use of this website and of the publications, datasets, charts and other materials made available through it. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
Frontier Labs is an independent research institution. Nothing on this site is an offer, a solicitation, investment advice, legal advice or a recommendation to take any action. Our publications describe what the evidence supports; decisions taken on the basis of them are yours.
Licensing
Frontier Labs publishes to be read, quoted and argued with. Our written publications and the charts within them are made available under a permissive attribution licence, on the following terms.
- You may quote, excerpt, reproduce and redistribute our published text and charts, including for commercial purposes, provided attribution is given to Frontier Labs and the specific publication is identified.
- You may not present modified figures, charts or quotations in a manner that misrepresents the finding or removes a stated interval or caveat.
- You may not use the Frontier Labs name, wordmark or identity in a way that implies endorsement of a product, an organisation, a policy position or a conclusion we have not published.
- Underlying datasets are shared on request under a separate agreement, principally to record provenance and to preserve the confidentiality of site identities withheld for security reasons.
- Where a publication carries a licence notice differing from this section, that notice governs.
Citation
Every publication carries a suggested citation in plain and BibTeX form on its page. When citing a finding, please cite the publication rather than press coverage of it, and please carry the stated interval or qualification with the figure. A reconstructed quantity cited without its interval is a misrepresentation regardless of intent.
If you are citing a publication whose status is 'in review' or 'forthcoming', please say so, and please note that provisional findings may change.
Accuracy and corrections
We take considerable care over accuracy and we are nonetheless sometimes wrong. Published work is provided as it stands, with the intervals and qualifications stated in it, and without any warranty that it is free of error.
If you believe a publication contains an error, please tell us. Corrections are answered before other correspondence, are published with the same prominence as the original claim, and are recorded permanently in the change log. We do not remove or silently revise published work.
Conflicts register
Frontier Labs does not accept funding contingent on findings, does not offer pre-publication review to the subjects of research, and does not publish commissioned work under its research imprint.
Editorial control over what is researched, what is concluded and what is published rests entirely with the Frontier Labs research group. No funder, partner or affiliate sees a publication before release, and none has the ability to delay, alter or suppress one. Where a member of the research group holds an interest relevant to a publication, that interest is disclosed within the publication itself and recorded here.
The register is maintained continuously and is available in full on request. Any disclosed interest relevant to a specific publication also appears on that publication's page.
Third-party material
Our publications quote and reproduce material from primary sources — filings, registers, statutory instruments and published datasets. Rights in that material remain with its owners and our licence does not extend to it. Where a third-party right restricts redistribution, this is noted at the point of use.
Availability
We aim to keep this site and every publication on it permanently available. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, and we may change the structure of the site over time. Publication URLs are treated as permanent identifiers and we will not knowingly break them.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Frontier Labs is not liable for loss arising from reliance on our publications, from any inaccuracy within them, or from the unavailability of this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Changes take effect when published, and the date at the head of this page records the most recent revision. Material changes are noted in the monthly brief.
